Kontron Releases One Of First Com Express Solutions Based On Latest Intel® Processor

ETXexpress-PM delivers superior performance with the Intel® Pentium® M processor 760 and the Mobile Intel® 915GM Express chipset at the core of Kontron´s COM Express design

NUREMBURG-- February 22, 2005 - Kontron, a leading embedded computer technology company, is showcasing the capabilities of the ETXexpress-PM, one of the first COM Express solutions based on the Intel® Pentium® M processor 760 and the Mobile Intel® 915GM Express chipset, with a demonstration unit at Embedded World 2005. The lead product in Kontron new ETXexpress Computer-On-Module (COM) product family, the ETXexpress-PM is fast and puts the latest interface technologies at the fingertips of embedded application designers.

The ETXexpress-PM is built around the Intel Pentium M processor 760 and the Mobile Intel 915GM Express chipset, which is the first mobile platform to offer PCI Express functionality with extended life cycle support. The ETXexpress-PM delivers up to 2.0 GHz performance and up to 2GB DDR2-DIMM RAM. For applications that require advanced real-time video capabilities, the ETXexpress-PM has integrated graphics based on the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 900 architecture and also supports PCI Express graphics. Fast communications are possible courtesy of the 10/100Bast-T Ethernet port that will be upgraded to be Gigabit ready in future ETXexpress COMs.

Sample ETXexpress-PM modules will be available in late Q1 2005. Kontron anticipates offering production units priced starting at approximately $600 in small quantities (actual pricing may vary based on volume).

About ETXexpress, a COM Express solution:
In mid-2003, Kontron initiated a movement to bring PCI Express technology into COMs. This movement was later bolstered by a group of leading embedded companies including Intel. These industry leaders formed a working group in January 2004 under the auspices of the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG); work on the COM Express specification officially began in early 2004.

Based on the upcoming COM Express standard, Kontron ETXexpress products are the next generation embedded modules that bring advanced technology to tomorrow´s applications. Built around serial differential signaling technologies, ETXexpress modules incorporate interfaces for PCI Express, Serial ATA, USB 2.0, LVDS, Serial DVO and much more into a 95 x 125 mm small form factor embedded module. Kontron ETXexpress modules provide the highest available performance on the smallest state of the art embedded modules. Additionally, by following the modular concept for embedded design, ETXexpress modules safeguard R&D investments and lower total cost of ownership.

"Kontron is excited about bringing the next level of Computer-on-Module technology to fruition. The Kontron ETXexpress family of products offers the highest levels of embedded computing performance as standard-based, off-the-shelf solution backed by some of the strongest players in the embedded market," said Matthias Huber, Director of the Kontron Embedded Modules division in Hayward, California.

"The Intel® Pentium® M processor family can offer the scalability and new I/O bandwidth required by the latest embedded applications," said Doug Davis, vice president, Digital Enterprise Group, general manager, Infrastructure Processor Division, Intel Corporation. "The work done by Intel, Kontron and other key players in the embedded industry to develop the COM Express specification is an example of how Intel and the ecosystem can work together to offer new choices in performance and technology to embedded developers."
