At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.
Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.
Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

Peter Bauer Joins Supervisory Board of Kontron AG
Eching near Munich, March 5, 2013. The Supervisory Board of Kontron AG announces that Mr Peter Bauer has been appointed as member of the Supervisory Board of Kontron AG.
Helmut Krings, Chairman of the Kontron Supervisory Board, commented “We are delighted that Mr Bauer is becoming a member of our Board. His twenty five years of successful experience in the dynamic semiconductor business will be invaluable to Kontron in its current phase of development under Rolf Schwirz as new CEO.”
Peter Bauer commented “I am looking forward to join the Kontron Board. With my background in many of the target markets of Kontron and my passion for the embedded systems business I believe that I can provide valuable support to both the Supervisory Board and Management team.”
Mr Bauer was appointed CEO of Infineon Technologies AG (“Infineon”) in 2008 having served as a Member of the Executive Board since the IPO of the company in 1999. He has held a number of positions at Infineon including responsibility for microcontrollers and microcomputer chipsets. As the head of Infineon’s global sales and marketing activities and CEO of it’s North America business he also had been responsible for the international expansion of Infineon’s customer base. Before becoming CEO of Infineon he led the companies automotive, industrial and security business. During his tenure until Semptember of 2012 Infineon turned into a very focussed, profitably growing and globally leading semiconductor company.
