This use case paper examines how cable operators can overcome the challenges of video transcoding and set-top virtualization to maximize their subscriber channel densities.
It explains how Intel, Kontron and ActiveVideo teamed up to help UPC Hungary make cloud-based video services and the virtual STB into a scalable and efficient reality for UPC Hungary – in very short order. The paper also shows how the complete technology package uses a highly scalable converged infrastructure server platform to bring YouTube, Flickr, Picasa and other widely viewed OTT Services to the TV screens of Budapest cable customers. And for cable operators and other conventional pay-TV providers, the paper also demonstrates the benefits of becoming the aggregator of video aggregators.
