Contact SupportIntelligent, High-Density Modular Infrastructure Empowers Service Providers to More Quickly and Confidently Roll-Out Cloud Business Services
· Cloud service providers (CSPs) aspire to transform their infrastructure through virtualization in order to more adaptively and cost-efficiently meet relentlessly evolving market demands.
· Kontron is collaborating with Red Hat and Sandvine to deliver an open hardware, software and management stack that offers CSPs compelling NFV economics and carrier-class reliability.
Augsburg, GERMANY, February 25th, 2015 – Kontron is collaborating with industry leaders Red Hat and Sandvine to give communication service providers (CSPs) an economically and operationally optimized open solution to deploy cloud business services using Network Function Virtualization (NFV) infrastructure.
The solution combines Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform, Sandvine’s network policy control platform for traffic optimization, analytics and subscriber service creation, and the Kontron SYMKLOUD high-density, modular converged hardware platform for carrier-cloud networks.
This combined solution enables CSPs to quickly implement economical, adaptive and reliable NFV infrastructure that can give them significant advantages over competitors opting for offerings that are less dense, less intelligently programmable, and less suited for High Availability.
Kontron is demonstrating the integrated reference NFV solution at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, March 2-5, 2015, at stand 5H19, in Hall 5.
Kontron’s SYMKLOUD converged hardware platform is massively scalable and extremely dense, packing up to nine hot-swappable modular servers (each with single or dual independent x86 nodes) and two OpenFlow-ready 10GbE switches – all in a 2U enclosure. This high density and converged infrastructure in a single hardware solution greatly improves the economics of CSP infrastructure.
SYMKLOUD modular servers are and can be easily custom-configured to meet service providers’ specific requirements with a variety of Intel-based processors, dedicated memory and storage components—as well as PCIe hardware acceleration expansion slots.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform, a highly scalable Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) offering that has emerged as a leading cloud platform for NFV, enables CSPs to quickly and easily deploy instances of Sandvine applications and other third-party NFV software.
Sandvine’s Cloud Services Policy Controller enables CSPs to offer their SME clients the ability to view, control, and protect their own networks using policy-driven intelligence, through rapid self-provisioning and without any customer premise equipment. Many businesses lack dedicated IT resources and expertise, so these capabilities offer a compelling value proposition for businesses looking to better manage their networks and operators looking to generate additional business services revenue.
“To succeed in today’s intensively competitive markets, CSPs need NFV/SDN infrastructure to minimize ownership costs and nimbly allocate resources to services based on customer needs—without sacrificing the reliability and scalability they have come to expect from hardware-based infrastructure,” said Robert Courteau, Executive V.P., Communications BU, Kontron. “The combined open source solution that Kontron, Sandvine, and Red Hat are collaboratively delivering, meet this need with industry leading density and carrier-class reliability, availability, and serviceability.”
“Red Hat is deeply committed to helping CSPs leverage the power of OpenStack to both optimize their own operational capabilities and those of the customers to whom they offer their next-generation cloud services,” said Radhesh Balakrishnan, general manager of OpenStack at Red Hat. “Our collaboration with Kontron and Sandvine supports this mission by bringing Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform to a ready-to-implement NFV infrastructure solution.”
“Kontron’s modular, high-density SYMKLOUD hardware gives our mutual CSP customers highly economical physical capacity that they can monetize with our Cloud Services Policy Controller platform,” said Don Bowman, CTO, Sandvine. “Combined with Red Hat’s OpenStack virtualization capabilities, the result is an ideal NFV environment for CSPs looking to out-perform the market in terms of cost, capabilities and service levels.”
