At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.

Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.

Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

With the TRACe-B104-TR, Kontron takes the outstanding new Intel® Atom® Quad-Core x6425E architecture and integrated graphics to the next level, offering 1.7x the CPU performance and 2x the GPU performance of its previous generation. In the form of a compact rugged fanless edge computer certified according to EN50155, TRACe-B104-TR is designed to sustain the most demanding railway and public transportation mission profiles in harsh environmental conditions. It also enable multiple radio modules to be operated simultaneously for WLAN, 5G/LTE, as well as GNSS.

When powered by Kontron SEC-Line firmware (hardened openWRT hypervisor), TRACe-B104-TR becomes a secure Server/Router Gateway answering the challenges of edge computing with hardware root of trust, cybersecurity protections, virtualization and fleet management tools.
