embedded world 2017 took place in Nuremberg from March 14 to 16, 2017. As always Kontron was among the exhibitors.

In pole position in Hall 1, Booth 478 we presented our novelties for 2017: innovative Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) , our Kontron KBox family industrial computers, as well as a highly scalable portfolio of eleven different boards and modules featuring the newest Intel Atom, Celeron, Pentium, Core and XEON processors. Our innovative Security Solution Kontron APPROTECT, the Kontron ZINC 19 Rackmount series and Kontron HPW410 Workstations for high performance requirements like image processing were also on display.

Our partner s&t embedded joined us at our booth with its HMIs that complement our Kontron Fusion Client portfolio.
Apart from our novelties and popular coffee treats, visitors were especially interested in the embedded server product studies presented at our booth. These prototypes directly address a recurring theme we were seeing in recent IoT and Industry 4.0 projects: the demand for an integrated, scalable, on premise Embedded Cloud infrastructure at the heart of the factory floor. No wonder the devices were received overwhelmingly positive by our customers. The embedded servers showcased offer datacenter-grade performance and storage capacities of 100+ terabyte. In further development stages we will ruggedize them for application in industrial environments, similar to our already available high-performance solutions, Kontron ZINC19 and Kontron HPW410.

Our embedded servers add to the already broad portfolio of on premise, Embedded-Cloud-ready Kontron products, making them an important milestone for our Embedded Cloud concept also introduced at embedded world. We will go into more detail on this in a future blog post.
Judging from visitors’ feedback, we struck a nerve with our focus on security as well. The Kontron Secure Systems Concept makes us one of the first embedded computing providers to offer a holistic approach to protecting embedded systems on three device levels relevant to security.
Kontron Secure Systems layers explained
We offer protection for the BIOS (Secure BIOS), the operating system (Secure OS), and the application (Secure Application) level for all our products based on the newest Intel processor generation. TPM 2.0 chips are used for the former two, an additional security chip for application security. This solution is available as a standard for all Kontron Systems with Intel Core and 7th generation Intel Xeon processors, and all products with latest-generation Intel Atom, Celeron, and Pentium processors. We see an urgent need for a holistic security solution in the embedded market where solution providers are facing an enormous challenge protecting their systems, given the extremely long product life cycles in industrial applications. The Kontron Secure Systems concept offers a comprehensive security system from a single source that can even be tailored to individual requirements such as pay-per-use licensing models.
