Kontron Introduces New K4021-U mSTX Motherboard with Intel® Core™ Ultra Processors and Integrated NPU for AI Acceleration

Innovative mini-STX platform for compute-intensive, AI-powered applications - Made in Germany

Ismaning, Germany, October 10, 2024 – Kontron, a leading global provider of IoT/Embedded Computer Technology (ECT), launches the K4021-U mSTX motherboard. Based on the latest Intel^® Core™ Ultra 7 and 5 processors (SoC), the high-performance motherboard is specifically designed for compute-intensive AI workloads such as image recognition and automation. With an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU), the K4021-U delivers up to 20x performance-per-watt with comparatively low power consumption.
 
The K4021-U mSTX, in a compact and versatile Mini-STX form factor with a flat design, offers a space-saving alternative to 3.5' or NUCs. It is particularly suitable for installations where space is at a premium. Supporting standard components such as M.2 SSDs and SO-DIMM memory, its energy-efficient design, wireless installation, easy maintenance and flexible expandability make it a cost-effective solution for industrial applications.

The motherboard is designed for applications in POS/POI, production optimization, medical, digital signage and kiosk solutions. It offers advanced security features and comprehensive remote management options via Intel^® Active Management Technology (AMT). The integrated GPU with up to 8 Xe cores provides powerful graphics processing and enables demanding visual applications, supporting up to four independent displays in 4K or two displays in 8K.

Designed and manufactured in Germany, the motherboard offers a wide range of connectivity options, including two DisplayPorts™, one DisplayPort™ over USB Type-C on the front and another with Thunderbolt™ 4 support. An Embedded DisplayPort™ and dual-channel 24-bit LVDS panels are also available. With four M.2 slots (Key-M, Key-B & Key-E) and extensive connectivity options including 2x COM, Thunderbolt™ 4 and USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C with DisplayPort™ function (DPoC), the K4021-U is extremely versatile.

Designed for 24/7 continuous operation, the K4021-U has an extended temperature range of up to 60°C. It supports DDR5-5600 memory with a maximum capacity of 96GB, enabling smooth multitasking and processing of data-intensive tasks. The wide DC input range of 9-24V as well as the 20V DC input via the rear USB-C port (PowerDelivery-Sink-Mode) offer additional power supply flexibility.

First samples of the K4021-U mSTX will be available at SPS 2024. A matching mSTX SMARTCASE™ chassis kit solution will also be available for volume production in 2025.
