In addition, specific mobility products such as validators and fare collection systems are provided to public transport operators.

As a driving force in the definition and specification of FRMCS standards, Kontron Transportation is significantly involved in standardization working groups and European research projects such as Morane 2.

KTR has been designing, building, deploying and supporting end-to-end RDN (Railway Dedicated Network) solutions based on the GSM-R standard for more than 20 years. The FRMCS vision is to cover mission-critical railway communications by enabling an on-board mobile communication system for railway operators. With the recently developed PS-LTE (Public Safety Long Term Evolution) solution, KTR has added IoT (Internet of Things), VNF (Virtualized Network Function) and Asset Management to its portfolio.

At its R&D centers in Europe, KTR develops next generation systems, applications and services as well as solutions for operational and business support systems. KTR plays an active role in various standardization and regulatory bodies such as the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), the ERA (European Railway Agency), the International Union of Railways (UIC), and joined the European Rail Industry Association (UNIFE).

KTR also has a driving role in the European rail joint technology initiative Shift2Rail, which aims to drive innovation to the rail sector.
